Reply within 30 days of a direct purchase and you get your money back. refund details below.
What this page covers
These are the common terms for the three desktop applications licensed directly through Kalman Software: who the transaction runs through, how refunds work, where we sell, and the legal parts. Each app has specific terms covering its trial and license:
- RangefinderInvest Terms of Sale & License
- CrucibleTrade Terms of Sale & License
- Excise PDF Terms of Use
Excise PDF's Windows licence is a direct Stripe purchase. Its separate Universal Purchase for Mac, iPhone, and iPad is sold by Apple, so App Store purchase and refund rules apply to that purchase.
Where an app's own terms say something more specific than this page, the app's terms govern that purchase. Nothing here narrows what an app's terms promise you.
Who you're buying from
All directly licensed apps are made by Kalman Software LLC, a Colorado limited liability company based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Throughout this page, "we" and "us" mean Kalman Software LLC, and "you" means the person or business buying the license.
The software is made and licensed by Kalman Software LLC. The sale runs through Stripe, acting as our merchant of record: Stripe is the seller on the transaction, takes the payment, and is responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax or VAT wherever you are. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us. We never see or store a card number.
In practice: your licence and your support come from us, and we can refund you directly. Checkout itself is branded Link, Stripe's consumer checkout, so that is the name on your receipt and statement; Link's own support can also refund a purchase, and Stripe handles any card dispute. Stripe's part is the money and the tax, which is what lets us sell in most of the world without you having to deal with a different company in every country.
Refunds
If what you bought isn't right for you, reply to your license email within 30 days and we'll refund you in full. No form, no justification, no "what went wrong?" interrogation. One email to [email protected] does it.
All directly licensed apps ship with a full-feature trial, needing no card and no account, precisely so nobody has to buy on faith. RangefinderInvest and CrucibleTrade include 30 days; Excise PDF for Windows includes seven. You can run the app against your own data before paying a cent. The refund window is the backstop for the case the trial didn't catch.
What happens when a trial ends differs by app. The specifics, including when the clock starts and which actions pause, are set out in that app's own terms linked above.
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, usually within a few business days once issued (your bank sets the exact timing). Sales tax collected on the order is refunded along with it. After a refund, the license key stops being licensed to you; please remove it from your machines. Your own data is yours and stays on your computer either way; a refund never touches it.
Past 30 days, email anyway. We'd rather sort out a real problem than hold onto money from someone who isn't using the software.
If something looks wrong on your card statement, please email us before disputing it with
your bank. Our checkout runs through Link, Stripe's checkout service, so the charge appears as
LINK.COM* plus a short form of our company name rather than the app's.
Nearly every dispute we could receive is something a single
reply would have fixed faster. A dispute also costs us more than the refund would have.
Where we sell
Where we sell differs by app, so check the one you want.
CrucibleTrade sells internationally. Because Stripe is the merchant of record, each country's tax and consumer-law obligations are handled at checkout rather than being something either of us has to navigate. Prices are in US dollars; your card issuer converts at its own rate.
RangefinderInvest is sold in the United States only. To buy it you need to be in the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and give a US billing address. Its retirement planning is built around the US system, including federal tax brackets, Social Security, RMDs, ACA and IRMAA. We would rather sell it where those rules are the ones we know than take money for a projection that does not describe you. Anyone anywhere may still download it and run the full 30-day trial. A license already issued keeps working if you travel or move abroad; what is limited is the purchase, not the software. CrucibleTrade carries no such assumption; a trading journal is a trading journal.
Price and tax
Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Tax is calculated at checkout based on where you are, wherever the jurisdiction requires it: US sales tax on a RangefinderInvest order, and sales tax, VAT or GST on a CrucibleTrade order. Any tax shown is collected and remitted by Stripe as merchant of record, not by us.
Launch pricing is exactly that: an introductory price can end, and a higher price applies afterward. Whatever you paid is what your perpetual license cost. Later price changes never reach back to a license already bought.
What you're buying
A purchase gives you a perpetual, non-exclusive license to use the app you bought, for as long as you like. There is no subscription, nothing auto-renews, and the license itself has no expiry date. Licenses are verified on your own machine; activating contacts no server, and no server can switch one off, including ours. What a license covers in terms of versions and platforms is set out in that app's own terms, linked above.
The license is for you. Please don't share your key publicly, resell it, or hand it around a firm. If you need several people covered, email us and we'll sort something out. You also agree not to reverse-engineer an app to work around licensing, and not to strip or forge the license mechanism itself.
You are buying a license to use the software, not the software itself. Kalman Software LLC keeps ownership of its applications and everything in them.
Not financial advice
Our two money apps are tools for money you manage yourself: calculators and records that work from targets and assumptions you set. They are not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice; we are not your broker, investment adviser, or accountant; and nothing in any of them is a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
Neither has a brokerage connection: no login, no linked account, no order routing. They never place a trade, move money, or hold custody of anything. You place every order yourself. Confirm anything that drives a real decision with your broker, CPA, or advisor before acting.
Your data
Your data lives in a file on your own machine. We have no copy and no access. From a purchase we receive your name, email address, and order details, which is enough to issue your license, email it to you, and support you afterward. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms; each app also has its own covering what it does on your machine (RangefinderInvest · CrucibleTrade).
Support
Support is available by email at [email protected]. We aim to reply within two business days.
Warranty disclaimer
We build these carefully and use them ourselves, but the software is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that an app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every number it computes is correct for your situation. Verify anything that matters, including figures that drive a financial decision and anything going on a tax return, against your broker's own statements and a professional.
Some states don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Limits of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Kalman Software LLC is not liable for investment or trading losses, lost profits, lost data, or any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our software, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to an app or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us for that license.
That limit is a deliberate part of a one-time price in the low hundreds: it's what makes it possible to sell a serious tool at that number rather than at enterprise rates. Some states don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
If these terms change
We may update these terms for a new product, a changed refund process, or plain clarity. The terms in force when you bought are the ones that govern your purchase and your license; a later change can't retroactively narrow what you already paid for. Changes take effect for new purchases when posted here, and the effective date at the top changes with them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in Larimer County, Colorado. If any provision here is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights your state's consumer-protection law gives you and doesn't allow to be waived.
